1) How much should I order?

The first thing you need to do is measure the desired area. Then you should determine what depth you will need, that is, how "thick" you want the product once it is spread? Not sure how thick you need the product, click here.

It is also important to consider compaction. Compaction is the amount your product will "settle" once you spread it and gravity and weather do their magic.

The Gauthier Soils Estimate Calculator can help you with this task.

For soil, the calculator will add 20% for compaction

For packing products such as limestone, it will add 10%

For decorative stone there is no compaction

Now you can plug in your numbers into the estimate calculator. Please click here

2) What depth will I need for a particular product? How thick should a product be spread?

On average, for a final layer of soil for seeding and sodding, 3 inches thick is a good depth.

For decorative stone, 3 inches is also the average thickness, otherwise you risk seeing underneath to the barrier.

Building up an area in your yard will require greater depth. You will have to determine how high you need to build up that area and then measure accordingly.

5) I only need a small amount of soil / gravel. Do I have to order an entire truckload?

No. For delivery, you may order as little as one yard of product. However, if you require 1/2 a yard of one product and 1/2 a yard of another, this is also something we can deliver.

If you require even less than this amount we also sell soil / gravel / sand by the bag. You may bring your own bags or use ours for an extra charge. The cost per bag will also decrease if you bag it yourself. Please call our sales representatives for current prices.

6) What type / size of decorative stone should I order?

Generally this is entirely your preference alone. However, keep in mind that some decorative stone are round and smooth, which make them easier to walk on. Other decorative stone are crushed and therefore have jagged edges.

10) Can the product be unloaded exactly where I need it in my yard?

At Gauthier Soils Ltd. we will treat your property as if it were our own. We also only hire experienced and courteous drivers. However, due to the size of standard delivery trucks and the size of some yards, this may be difficult. Our drivers will tell you prior to unloading if they can fit where you wish the soil / gravel / sand to be dumped. It is wise to have an alternative location in mind prior to their arrival. It is up to you to ensure that the area is clear to make way for our trucks.

Nevertheless, we must inform you that having our trucks unload directly in your yard is at your own risk. We will do all that we can to accommodate your needs and be responsible, however loaded trucks are quite heavy and could cause ruts in your lawn, imprints in unistone, and may crack patio/pathway stones.

11) How much room do I need for the delivery truck to fit where I need the product unloaded?

You will need at least 11 feet across to fit our entire truck into the area; this includes the mirrors. However, if you only require the box of the truck the make it through, then you will need only a 9 foot wide space.

Our drivers will tell you prior to unloading if they can fit where you wish the soil / gravel / sand to be dumped. Please note that it is up to you to ensure that the area is clear to make way for our trucks. It is also wise to have an alternative location in mind prior to our arrival, just in case.
