Top Soil Mixtures
We offer many different types of top soil at our Winnipeg soil & gravel yard. Certain mixtures are better for gardening, potting or building up an area in your yard. To make the best decision when ordering, please read the descriptions for each mixture.
2-Way Mix
60% Peat Moss & 40% Top Soil.
This mixture is crushed and screened so that it is free of most clay lumps and roots.
It is an all-purpose soil mixture used for lawns, gardens, flowerbeds and the like.
3-Way Mix
50% Peat Moss, 40% Top Soil, & 10% Sand.
Gauthier Soils 3-way Top Soil mixture is crushed and screened so that it is free of most clay lumps and roots.
It is generally used for gardens, flowerbeds, potting and tree/shrub planting, but can also be used on grass. The sand in the mix provides drainage for the plants and also helps to keep the soil loose.
4-Way Mix
40% Peat Moss, 40% Top Soil, 10% Manure & 10% Sand.
At Gauthier Soils, we also offer a 4-Way Top Soil mix. This mixture is crushed and screened so that it is free of most clay lumps and roots.
It is used for gardens, flowerbeds, potting and tree/shrub planting. The sand component provides drainage for plants and also keeps the soil loose. The manure acts as a fertilizer, which aids plant growth. However, keep in mind that manure will also help weeds to grow.
80/20 Mix
80% Top Soil and 20% Peat Moss.
This mixture is crushed and screened so that it is free of most clay lumps and roots.
It is a very heavy mix and packs tightly due to the high topsoil content. It is used for raising around foundations, building up an area, or filling in low spots. Generally used for building up 6 inches or more.

5 Way Mix
This type of Top Soil mix consists of Peat Moss, Top Soil, Manure, Sand, and Compost
Screenings
Screenings are mostly topsoil, but includes all ingredients that are screened out of all the other mixtures. This includes lumps of peat moss, topsoil, roots, clay, and some stones. It is used as fill and to build up lawns. If you use it to build up your yard, you will need a layer of another soil mixture for seeding or sodding. Generally, it is used for building up a foot or more.
